Princess Island Tour – A Peaceful Day Trip from Istanbul

Looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul? The Princess Island Tour is the perfect way to unwind. The Princes’ Islands (Kızıl Adalar or simply Adalar) are a group of nine small islands in the Sea of Marmara, known for their natural beauty and relaxed pace of life.

Once used as a place of exile during the Byzantine era, these islands have now become one of the top things to do in Istanbul—especially for those seeking quiet, nature, and sea views.

Out of the nine islands, only four are open to visitors:

  • 🏝️ Büyükada – The largest and most famous island. No cars allowed, only bicycles and electric taxis.

  • 🏝️ Heybeliada – A tranquil spot with pine forests and monasteries.

  • 🏝️ Burgazada – Known for its literary history and peaceful waterfront cafés.

  • 🏝️ Kınalıada – The closest island to Istanbul, popular for its swimming spots and red hills.

What to Expect on the Princess Island Tour:

  • Ferry ride from Istanbul across the Sea of Marmara

  • Leisurely exploration of Büyükada island

  • Time for local lunch, seaside strolls, and optional bike or electric cart rentals

  • A relaxing atmosphere with no traffic or noise—just sea breeze and sunshine

Whether you want to explore historic mansions, enjoy local seafood, or simply relax on a quiet street, the Princess Islands day tour from Istanbul is the perfect addition to your trip.

Day 1

Full-Day Tour from Istanbul to the Prince Islands (Buyukada)

Your day begins with a hotel pickup at 8:30 a.m. and transfer to the harbor for a scenic ferry ride to the Prince Islands archipelago. Comprised of nine islands in total, the highlight of the tour is Buyukada, the largest and most charming of them all.

On Buyukada, motor vehicles are not permitted, preserving the island’s peaceful atmosphere. Transportation is provided by horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, and electric bikes. The island is famous for its stunning 19th-century wooden mansions with elegant balconies, many of which are now used as summer residences.

Upon arrival, you'll enjoy a one-hour horse-drawn carriage (phaeton) tour around the island, offering a relaxing way to soak in its natural beauty and historic architecture. A delightful lunch will follow at a seaside fish restaurant, offering views of Istanbul’s Asian shoreline.

After lunch, you’ll have free time to explore the island’s scenic streets, historic churches, and monasteries at your own pace. Around 7:00 p.m., you’ll return to Istanbul by ferry and be transferred back to your hotel by bus.
