What our guests say about their experience
Eastern Turkey is a land of high plateaus, volcanic mountains and old caravan routes, far from the busy coasts. Lake Van, the Ishak Pasha Palace below Mount Ararat and the ruins of Ani near Kars are its best-known sights, and many travellers combine them with Southeast Turkey on the same trip.
Most of eastern Turkey lies on high ground, so winters are long, cold and snowy, while summers are warm and dry. Late spring to early autumn is the most comfortable time for touring; in winter some mountain roads and sites can be harder to reach.
The east is often visited together with Southeast Turkey: Mount Nemrut, Şanlıurfa with Göbekli Tepe, and the old town of Mardin are a day’s drive or a short flight away. See our Southeast Turkey tours for routes in that region.
We are adding Eastern Turkey tours to this page. Until they are online, send us your dates and interests on WhatsApp and we will suggest a route. If you are looking for the green highlands of the Black Sea instead, see our tours to Trabzon, Uzungöl and Ayder.
