This Mardin and Midyat tour gives you two full days with a private guide. It is not a fixed-date group departure: the programme is arranged for your own dates, with pick-up on request from Mardin airport, the bus station or your accommodation at 09:00 and drop-off back at your accommodation at about 19:30 each day.
Day one heads out of the city. At Dara you explore the remains of a Roman and Sassanid frontier town, including its necropolis carved into the rock, large cisterns, agora, bridge, walls and the underground dungeon. After a break at Beyazsu (White Water) you have lunch in Midyat and visit Mor Gabriel Monastery, with a history of some 1,600 years. The afternoon continues with the Midyat Guest House, known from the Hercai series, a walk past the traditional houses to Gelüşke Han for tea among filigree workshops, the Midyat caves and an hour of free time in the bazaar.
Day two is dedicated to Mardin itself. You start at Deyrulzafaran Monastery, the residence of the Metropolitan of Mardin, and Kasımiye Madrasa, then stop for lunch and coffee. In the afternoon you explore the old town on foot: Kırklar Church, the Protestant Church, Latifiye Mosque, Mardin Museum, the old PTT building, the Old and Lower Bazaars, the spice and coppersmiths’ markets, the Grand Mosque, Zinciriye Madrasa and the Sabancı City Museum, moving from one vaulted abbara passage to the next.
Transport within the region, airport transfers and guiding are included; meals, accommodation and entrance fees are not part of the price. Hasankeyf can be added for a surcharge per vehicle.
