If you like your travel active and varied, this 9 day Jordan adventure tour covers the country from its eastern desert to the Red Sea. You start and finish at Amman airport, and in between you visit Umayyad desert castles, a wetland oasis, a wildlife reserve, river canyons, mountain trails, the city of Petra and the sands of Wadi Rum.
The extra day compared with our eight-day adventure takes you east: to the desert castles, the Azraq Wetland Reserve, where migratory birds stop to rest, and the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve, home to a breeding programme for Arabian oryx, ostriches, onagers and gazelles. From there the route turns south through the Dead Sea and Mujib to a night at the Feynan Ecolodge in the Dana Biosphere Reserve.
Petra gets two nights and a full day, Wadi Rum a jeep tour and a desert camp evening, and the last active days are kept free for optional extras in the desert and on the coast at Aqaba. Breakfast and dinner are included on every day shown in the itinerary.

On arrival at Amman airport our representative is there to meet you. Visit the Citadel, the Roman Theatre and the old city, then enjoy some free time downtown before driving to As-Salt, a hill town of honey-coloured stone on the historic road from Amman to Jerusalem. Return to Amman for dinner and overnight.
Travel east to the Umayyad desert castles, then on to the Azraq Wetland Reserve, a desert oasis that has been restored and is a key resting place for migrating birds. Next is the Shaumari Wildlife Reserve, a breeding centre for Arabian oryx, ostriches, onagers and gazelles; an oryx safari of about two hours can be added as an option. Back to Amman for dinner and a second night.
Drive down to the Dead Sea at the lowest point on earth, then to the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, the lowest nature reserve in the world. Its river canyons with pools, rock climbs and waterfalls offer some of Jordan's most exciting hiking, and the water trail can be booked as an optional extra. Continue to the Feynan Ecolodge inside the Dana Biosphere Reserve for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, head out on the trails of the Dana Biosphere Reserve and Feynan. They suit every pace, from easy strolls to harder hikes, and lead past terraced gardens and artisan workshops in one of Jordan's top bird-watching areas. Guided trails are available on request. Continue to Petra for dinner and overnight.
Spend the whole day in Petra, the rose-red Nabataean city and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. After a short horse ride, walk through the Siq to the Treasury, then on past the Street of Facades, the Theatre and the Royal Tombs. The light is softest in the early morning and late afternoon. Dinner and a second night in Petra.
Drive to Wadi Rum, the 'Valley of the Moon', for a 2-hour 4x4 jeep tour among red dunes, granite mountains and ancient rock inscriptions. In the evening, a Bedouin dinner with folklore is followed by a night at the desert camp.
Breakfast at the camp, then a day for optional activities in Wadi Rum: trekking, hiking, a camel ride, another jeep safari, or a view of the desert from a hot-air balloon or microlight. Continue to Aqaba on the Red Sea for dinner and overnight.
Visit Aqaba and choose from optional activities such as swimming, snorkelling, diving among the coral reefs, a glass-bottom boat trip, or a scenic flight from King Hussein Airport with a qualified instructor. Drive north to Amman for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast, then a transfer to Amman airport for your flight home.
