About this tour

This six-day Jordan classic tour is for first-time visitors who want the full traditional route through the country without rushing. Starting at Amman airport, it takes you north to Roman Jerash and Ajloun Castle, then down the King’s Highway via Madaba, Mount Nebo and Kerak to Petra, on to a desert camp in Wadi Rum and finally to the Dead Sea.

Every night after the first two moves you one step further along the route: two nights in Amman, then one each in Petra, Wadi Rum and at the Dead Sea. Sleeping in Petra before your full day there and ending the trip with an evening by the Dead Sea gives the itinerary a relaxed finish.

Breakfast and dinner are included each day as listed, and our representative assists you at Amman airport on arrival and departure.

Itinerary

Our representative meets you at Amman airport and assists with arrival formalities, then you transfer to your hotel in Amman for dinner and overnight. (Dinner)

Head north to Jerash, ancient Gerasa, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Walk from Hadrian's Arch to the Oval Plaza, along the colonnaded street and up to the Temple of Artemis. Ajloun Castle comes next, built in 1184 by one of Salah ad-Din's commanders to keep watch over the Jordan Valley. Back in Amman, visit the Citadel with the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace, the Roman Theatre and the old markets of downtown. Dinner and overnight in Amman. (Breakfast, Dinner)

In Madaba, the 'City of Mosaics', see the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Church of St. George. From Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land, a clear day reveals the Jordan Valley, Jericho and Jerusalem. The King's Highway then brings you to Kerak Castle, one of the largest Crusader castles in the region, on a hilltop above the Dead Sea valley. Continue to Petra for dinner and overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Spend a full day in Petra, the rose-red city of the Nabataeans and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A short horse ride starts the visit, followed by the walk through the Siq to the Treasury and onwards past the Street of Facades, the Theatre and the Royal Tombs. The colours are most vivid in the early morning and late afternoon. In the evening, reach a Wadi Rum desert camp for a Bedouin-style dinner, traditional music and a night under the desert sky. (Breakfast, Dinner)

After breakfast at the camp, a 2-hour 4x4 jeep tour takes you through Wadi Rum, the 'Valley of the Moon', among sandstone and granite mountains, red dunes, natural arches and rock inscriptions left by the Nabataeans and earlier peoples. Then travel to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth at more than 400 metres below sea level, where the salty water keeps you afloat and the mineral-rich mud is famous. Dinner and overnight at the Dead Sea. (Breakfast, Dinner)

After breakfast, transfer from the Dead Sea to Amman airport, where our representative assists you with departure formalities. (Breakfast)
