5 Day Petra and Wadi Rum Tour with a Dead Sea Night

Drive south for a full day in Petra, the rose-red city of the Nabataeans and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. A short ride on horseback brings you to the Siq, which you walk to reach the Treasury; beyond it lie the Street of Facades, the Theatre and the Royal Tombs. Early morning and late afternoon are when the colours glow most. In the evening, continue to a Wadi Rum desert camp for a Bedouin-style dinner, traditional music and a night under the stars. After breakfast at the camp, a 2-hour 4x4 jeep tour leads you through Wadi Rum, the 'Valley of the Moon': sandstone and granite mountains, red dunes, natural arches and rock inscriptions carved by the Nabataeans and those who came before them. Then drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth at more than 400 metres below sea level, where the salty water holds you up with ease and the mineral-rich mud is a well-known draw. In Madaba, the 'City of Mosaics', see the 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Church of St. George. Mount Nebo follows, where Moses viewed the Promised Land, with a view across the Jordan Valley towards Jericho and Jerusalem. In Amman, tour the old part of the city, the Roman Theatre and the Citadel, then enjoy free time walking through downtown and its old markets. Dinner and overnight in Amman. (Breakfast, Dinner)
