Hot Air Balloon Flights Resumed in Gobekli Tepe

Klaus Schmidt has discovered one of the most amazing archaeological finds of our time, just six miles from Urfa, an ancient city in southeastern Turkey: enormous engraved stones dating back 11,000 years, sculpted and organised by prehistoric humans who had not yet developed metal tools or even pottery. The megaliths are 6,000 years older than Stonehenge. Gobekli Tepe is the name of the location, and Schmidt, a German archaeologist who has worked here for more than a decade, believes it is the location of the world’s oldest temple.

Hot air balloon flights have returned in Göbeklitepe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site 30 kilometres from Sanliurfa with a 12,000-year history known as “ground zero of history.” Those who wish to take part in the 1,000 lira balloon flights, which take place three times a week, arrive at Göbekli Tepe before daybreak.

Tourism has been boosted by the reintroduction of hot balloon flights in Göbekli Tepe. Those who come to the historical area early in the morning for a balloon ride will be able to see Göbeklitepe from above.

“This is a very nice and wonderful place. It’s a historic place that everyone should come and see. Balloon flights in Göbeklitepe increase the attraction. Excavations and balloon flights that are still underway in the region will affect tourism more,” Shadiye Yildiz, who came to explore the historical area up close and participate in the hot balloon flight, stated.

According to Ibrahim Beyoglu, they travelled to Sanliurfa from Malatya and paid a visit to Gobekli Tepe. Balloon rides are a lovely addition to the area. Such initiatives in the region help to illuminate the situation. The feeling of seeing these monuments that date back 12,000 years from the sky is described as “incredible.”

“This is an important place. It is a cultural heritage. My wife and child came here. I think the start of balloon flights here will have a lot of benefits for tourism. It would be a better experience to watch this place from the sky. Balloon flights will contribute more to the region,” Jesus Aban, who claimed to be visiting Gobekli Tepe for the third time, stated.
