Turkish State Railways operates the Eastern Express, a nighttime passenger train. From Ankara Railway Station to Kars Railway Station in Kars, the train travels 1,310 kilometres (814 miles). The train was the first to travel east of Ankara at night. Ankara, Krkkale, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan, Erzurum, and Kars are among the seven provincial capitals served by the train. The first train from Istanbul’s Haydarpaşa Terminal to Etinkaya ran in 1936.

The train used to run between Istanbul and Kars before the Ankara-Istanbul high-speed train project. Because of the train’s growing popularity, TCDD Taşmaclk added a second train, the Touristic Eastern Express. This new train runs three times a week and is more expensive than the conventional the train because it makes fewer stops. The Touristic Eastern Express began service from Ankara on May 29, 2019.

The train continues the fantastic voyage. During the journey, which lasts roughly 24 hours, passengers have remarkable experiences.

The Eastern Express, one of Turkey’s longest train journeys, runs from Ankara to Kars and is operated by the State Railways of the Republic of Turkey (TCDD). After touring the city’s historical and touristic sights, passengers aboard the Eastern Express return to Ankara. Emre Ergün, who claimed to be a Kayseri native, said:

“We have been in Kars for 2-3 days. We’ve always dreamed of traveling on the train, an opportunity. I wish we could have done it sooner. We recommend it to everyone.”
